
DeWitt first appeared on stage at the age of 13 years old. At the age of 13 years old, DeWitt began to perform on stage. She graduated with an undergraduate degree from Ball State University. When she performed in her summer stock she was encouraged by the director to enroll at UCLA's Department of Theater MFA Program. She was awarded the Master of Fine Arts Fellowship as well as the Clifton Webb Scholarship. Dewitt stated that she had never met actor Abe Vigoda while she was at UCLA. She worked as secretary during her time at UCLA. DeWitt is most famous for her part in the series Three's Company's run from 1977 to 1984 as Janet Wood. This was the first job she had after being selected for the second pilot. She also appeared as Janet in an episode from 1979 on the spinoff series , The Ropers. DeWitt was the final actor to be featured in the series' 1984 finale. She also appeared in an episode on Finder of Lost Lovers in 1984. After that, she stopped acting for a number of years. In June of 1991, she resumed acting by playing a part in Noises Off at Michigan's Cherry County Playhouse. In the following year she appeared in the TV comedy Spring Fling! A character that was based on her, voiced by another actress, was featured in a 1997 episode of Pinky and the Brain. She appeared on the episode Cybill and also had an appearance on the final episode of Living Single. She's appeared on television shows such as Hope Island, The Nick at Nite Holiday Special, and Call of the Wild in 2000.
